Hi! I’m newer to the Fediverse and brand new to Beehaw. I’ve used Reddit for years, but I’m seeking greener shores as big tech has gotten real weird.

When I’m not reading, attempting to be a guitarist or fooling with fountain pens, I like to paint my nails! Do I color in the lines? No. Do I do a perfect job? Also no. But I pick fun colors and always, always, always add glitter. Did you color your nails? I wanna see!

(Side bar, I low-key wish the Fediverse had more places for beauty inspo. Let’s see pretty nails, hair and outfits, please!)

They look great! I recently got my toes done, but immediately scratched them up rock climbing later that night. I was slightly crestfallen, haha.

    Welcome to Lemmy!

Your shaping is perfect. I get annoyed every time I try to grow mine out.

Have not done my nails in a while, but I like to do lily and fox stickers. They stay cute and they’re on permeant ‘sale’ for like 3$ per pair. I get 2 manicures our of a pair since my nails are short enough.

Shaping is very tedious. but I try to keep things the same shape. I keep hearing about stickers. Might have to take the plunge one day.

Some are very expensive. But lily and fox are cheap, so if you mess them up who cares. And they last much longer than polish for me. They have lots of styles, including tons of glitter. And they’re removed with lemon water and then nail polish for any remains. So they’re pretty nice on the skin. (I have sensitivity issues to a lot of nail products)

Black is literally one of my favorite colors, so I’m all for it. Also I hope your cat loves their cuddles and doesn’t bite (too hard/often).

Holy shit that’s incredible!! Are you good at art in general? Because that’s really intricate and your eye for color is amazing

Waaah! Such a good job! Do you do this as a hobby or a trade?

When the planets align, I want a nail pen. I forgot to add that since I’m between jobs/had an iffy work schedule, I went from getting no chip manicures to doing them at home with Dazzle Dry. So long as the top coat hasn’t gotten a weird texture, it’s a good time. I can go a week and a half before things get iffy so long as I’m not going ultra ham on guitar or being real rough in the world with my hands. Before that, I was a solid OPI girlie.

Thank you! ☺️ Just a hobby. This one was a labor of love because it took a bunch of steps. But I really love nail stamping and couldn’t stop staring at them for like a week haha

I struggle with nails vs guitar playing. I practice my guitar on and off, and whenever I’m in a good groove with practicing I keep the nails on my fretting hand really short. But then there’s less room for pretty designs which is a bummer. How do you keep your nails long and not have trouble fretting?

Also just curious, tell me what kind of music you play!

That’s the neat part, I don’t keep my fretting hand long!

(I’m wearing my plain wedding band as sometimes my eczema acts up)

So yeah I keep my left hand nubbin’ short and my right hand is just claws. I actually can’t fingerpick very well when my right hand does get short, but I admit my playing sounds better when it’s skin on contact with strings. But to me, nails are like arms, how do you live without them?

RE: What music I play, I wish I had a style! I consider myself reasonably eclectic, but I haven’t nailed my style down to a genre. I may like alternative rock like My Chemical Romance, Breaking Benjamin, and Avenged Sevenfold, but that doesn’t mean I like (…or am good at) attempting to play it!

When I started guitar three years ago, the goal was to be a finger style guitarist, but I found I had a lot more fun going to my family’s house for the holidays or friend’s houses and just doing mini karaoke, so it’s really me just strumming and playing (that’s not much of a style, though T_T). I think that because I like strumming and light fingerstyle, I was gonna try to develop a folk style, but then I ran out of time as I’m trying to finally get my degree. Will report if I finally figure out the answer to the question “what music do you play?”.

Oh man, you have nice long nailbeds - mine are lil stubby things. I’m jelly!

It’s really nice that you can play for family and friends. I haven’t been consistent enough with practicing to have that kind of confidence, and I’m too much of a perfectionist to let them see me struggle. But I bet everyone loves your karaoke sessions!

I love '60s pop and classic rock, so that’s what I’d like to be able to play eventually. Just gotta work at it!

Hi and welcome to WomensStuff! We’re really glad you found us.

I love that colour, it’s a really bright but calming mint. Sadly I’m so pale it would just look washed out on me but it looks great on you. Plus I passionately support always using glitter, it can only be a good thing.
