If I have a meeting booked in with the infosec team, and someone shows up with blue hair, cat ear headphones, and they/them pronouns, I know I’m dealing with an expert.

This has happened to me multiple times at multiple companies, and they’ve always been very good at their jobs.

I’m a sr. software engineer and you best believe I spam furry emotes at my coworkers. In my experience and in the companies I’ve worked at, most people who are even moderately talented operate with a relaxed attitude. As long as they get their deliverables done, don’t worry about how they do it. If you’ve got a problem with them they’ll take another offer in a week.

Edit: Also, I’d like to note that I think this behavior is healthy. People should be allowed to be themselves at work. I often joke about people putting on their “corporatesonas” at work.

I hate mine, it’s going in the trash bit by bit. What a boring, miserable and insecure guy that was.

This is always how I’ve managed a team. If someone is asleep at the desk, rollerblading on the roof, but gets all their work done, I’m happy. If someone just looks busy all the time and is dressed nice, but constantly causes issues I’m a hot little potato.

It sucks because this is how it should be but all my leadership cares about is time tracking and metrics

The wrong metrics though, because lazy metrics with no thought put into them are easy!

    That’s Information Security Operations, sir.

Damn, if that’s the case, how and where can I please surround myself with cybersecurity experts? Please… for security purposes of course.

We’re everywhere (a student here). Just ask any time, on literally any platform with a dense population of geeks (like Lemmy). For even more results / accidentally summoning an army of furries, ask on random Linux forums or StackOverflow. Just be aware all the Arch users will be gay (so that’s where to look of you’re into that).

I know a guy who actually works like the guy in the first picture but he wears hawaii shirts and shorts. I guess some people are built different.
