  • I think I fall into this category, but it’s complicated. How much I believe in the supernatural depends on how much the belief will benefit me in the moment. Most of the time, it only goes as far as making jokes, coping with grief, and explaining weird but mundane occurances. There are a few beliefs where I’m more into them, such as the idea of reincarnation, but I’m still aware that there’s no scientific evidence to support them and that “brains are weird” is the best explanation for them. In the end, it’s about what helps me feel better, and only me. When I mysteriously lose an object, sometimes it’s fun to say a ghost moved it. When I’m sad about the passing of a pet, imagining their spirit frolicking in pet heaven is comforting. I don’t really believe in these things with my whole heart. Sometimes it’s just nice to pretend.

  • I didn’t find it very hard to change how I downvoted comments. Of course what counts as contributing to a conversation is subjective, but I don’t think that should stop people from using it to decide whether to upvote or downvote. I downvote low effort comments, inflammatory comments, rude comments, and comments that spiral into tangents about unrelated topics. I upvote comments using my own judgement to encourage healthy discussions where people contribute differing ideas. I may not agree with every comment I upvote.

  • My heart aches for all the citizens living in Russia who have to live in fear because they’re ruled by a tyrant dictator. If this news is true, things will only get worse for them. I hope the people can escape, or better: live in a better Russia with leaders who treat them like human beings.

It’s wishful thinking, I know. Please stay strong, my Russian friends! Justice will be served one day!

  • I used DDG for a few years, but now I can’t stand it anymore. The search results are so bad. I could scroll to the end of the results and not find a single website I’d trust enough to cite as a reliable source. It’s all irrelevant SEO trash.

Also, search syntax doesn’t work! I could do the ol’ site:reddit trick, but - would never exclude results with a term, “” would never guarantee results with a term, and + sure as hell didn’t work either.

I reluctantly switched to Brave. The search results are better, but I don’t trust it very much since it started redirecting image searches to Bing or Google. I will likely move to Kagi.
