I sketched this out like a week from the inaguration, but it took until today to finish it. I feel worse than when I made the sketch, but at least I got it done.

It really feels like the world is going down the drain sometimes. For the last few decades, there was some progress (very slow progress, but still progress) towards a better future, but now it feels like more and more people fall for hate and division again. I just wish I could hug everyone and promise them that everything will be okay, but I don’t know if I could keep that promise :c

Yeah, growing up I got to see some outward change in certain social issues, but it does feel like it hit a wall, and now we’re scrambling to prevent it from falling over entirely. Honestly some of my earliest memories are others showing unease around gay couples and the press legitimizing bible thumping ‘gay is sin’ nonsense to keep marriage illegal. I just have to try and think that it’s just my limited life experience that makes this feel new and special, and that just like every other time in history, there was resistance to positive change and droves of evil people doing evil shit. Awful things are absolutely going to happen, but we have to keep moving forward and doing good when we can. That’s part of why I made this comic to begin with. It might feel negative, but saying nothing about this when I had the capacity as an artist felt far worse. If the media doesn’t even have the ability to call out a fucking Nazi salute, what do we even do if not call it out ourselves? I’ve always wanted my art hobby to be escapism, but sometimes it just can’t be.

We can’t promise everything will be okay, but we can promise to try and continue existing in this world, and to help ourselves and others when we can. It’s hard to fight hate without love, so giving that love and positivity is a great tool to help keep the fire going.
