Game of Thrones.
Read the books and got maybe to the 5th book? 6th? And gave up. It stopped going anywhere, the politics went away, it was just people going from A to B and getting killed somewhere along the way. Just like the show, they lost direction and floundered, Martin couldn’t finish it off.
So I never bothered to watch it. Never will.
Probably the fifth since GRRM has not yet published book six (TWoW) or 7 (ADoS), unless you count the spinoff books and/or the history book (A World of Ice and Fire).
I agree that the books fizzled out, but that’s kinda the only interpretation possible since we haven’t gotten 6 & 7. Theoretically the whole story has been building to those books (7 most of all based on how the show presented their likely events), but 5 (A Dance w Dragons) was definitely a chore to get through. That whole book felt like filler imo

Many of them, but one show that people sometimes nag me about is “Friends”. Not going to watch it either, doesn’t seem even remotely worth my time.

It’s funnier than Big Bang Theory, well Pheobe is.
Getting kicked in the balls is funnier than the Big Bang Theory.
Phoebe is the only character I feel “gets it” when I see the show on. Her performance is probably the strongest candidate for one that can hold up to modern scrutiny.
And it’s not like the others are doing a bad job. They are doing what they are supposed to (and more) and they do a good job of it. But there’s just something about the way she is written combined with the performance she brings to the table that makes her stand out to me

People on Reddit used to always share that clip of friends without the laugh track to show it wasn’t funny, so I’m assuming you’re referring to that. Honestly, it’s a completely dishonest representation of the show, and I say that as somebody who doesn’t particularly care for it. It’s a cultural touchstone, it’s a funny snapshot of a very specific time period, but a lot of the humor has aged like milk and even in its prime I found it too shlocky.
All that being said: The jokes are written with the laugh track in mind. The writers are not all hacks, you have simply removed a element of the joke that they are expecting to be there. That’s just as bad as pulling all character reactions when somebody says something in a show. The audience is represented by the laugh track and it’s a cue, but again, it’s expected. Then someone pulls it from a random scene and goes “see it’s trash!”
Call it lazy, call it trite, whatever, but if you remove the laugh track from any show that features one then it will 99% of the time suddenly stop being funny. It would be like removing Ron Howard’s narration from arrested development and pointing out how everybody just stands around randomly for a few seconds.

I mean, these things are grossing hundreds of millions, and I haven’t been to the movies in almost a decade, don’t have TV, and seldom stream anything like TV or movies.
My video habits have gotten much more personal over the years. I’ll watch specific adaptations, and specific YouTubers, but that’s about it. For my brain-mush time, I generally play videogames and listen to audiobooks.
The Godfather. It just never happened.

I tried watching that awhile ago and found it hard to get into because I’ve seen it parodied and ripped off so many times in other shows/movies that it’s hard to take the original seriously anymore.

I haven’t seen any super hero movie since the first spiderman with Tobey Maguire.
Well, no serious one. I’ve watched Deadpool and Kickass.
I bet you’d like The Boys if you like stuff like Kickass. It’s a show that takes the piss out of the concept of superheros but at the same time takes the concept very seriously and has some fantastic character-driven stories.
The Boys is amazing. You’ll know if you like it within the first 5 minutes I guarantee it.
While I know what you mean, I think for some it could take a bit longer for them to know if they like it. You’ll know if you like the gratuitous violence very quickly, but the first episode spends a lot of time laying down the show’s delightfully cynical worldview. I knew by the end of the first episode I liked the show, but I wouldn’t say I knew within the first 5 minutes.
Not exactly spoiler material as it happens in the first 5 mins of the series but when A-Train runs through Hughie’s girlfriend in a mist of red while Hughie is still holding her hands/forearms… I was like… DDDAAAAMMMNNN. This is awesome. From there it just got better.
I watched the first season but couldn’t bring myself to watch the second. I just got the ick too much from it to have any enthusiasm to finish it

Movie - Titanic. It has simply never appealed.
TV - any popular reality show. They are just not my thing.
I saw Titanic 4 times in the theatre I liked it that much. It was so well done I recall wondering if the ship was going to sink when it hit the iceberg.
I’m in the same boat as you for Titanic. That movie was so everywhere during it’s time & I just never felt the need to watch it. I feel like the modern equivalent would be someone not watching any of the marvel movies.
Breaking Bad. I tried it and it’s just… too much.
I finished it. It was just OK for me.
Better call Saul (BcS) is better. Some parts may be boring but BcS made me think. Impressive writing.

It is a lot, but it’s rated high because it’s amazing. You could start with better call Saul, little slower and still as amazing.
Friends, Big Bang Theory. Let There Be Blood. Which is odd because I like sitcoms and dramatic movies but sometimes it feels like the time has passed and all of the like memes and expectations surrounding a certain thing make for an insurmountable amount of initialization energy.
Big bang theory is absolute garbage, don’t waste your time.
The Wire. Although I’d really like to get around to it one day.
Just finished it last week. Season 1 was decent, 2 and 3 I was really wondering why everyone had talked up the show so much, but season 4 is where I felt it got real. Quality TV, I do recommend, but I do think it’s a bit overhyped.
I work in logistics and transportation so I always enjoyed season 2. Especially what McNulty does in episode 1.
It is an eye opening show in that you can see how each part of crime affects the community. Local political corruption, media corporatization, defunded inner city schools, international sex and drug trade, they all lead to the way society works for the rich and fuck everyone else raw.

strongly recommend watching the Wire. its in a different league to the other three.
One of my favorites, but I will concede that it’s not for everyone. Those I’ve met that don’t like it usually complains that the pacing is slow and the plot is too convoluted and vague.
I was one of those. when I finally went back it was because I had grown and realized that stories which take their time usually pay off. also idk how people are getting convoluted and vague, the plot is tight (in all senses of the word).
In a rewatch right now. Rhetorically only but:
- why was the cop at a gay bar?
- why are Prez and 8th graders running the season I’m in now
- why did Dee’s mom let McNulty just keeeeeeep going in that convo at the police station
- I get the poetic justice when a couple of people turn on each other without the other knowing toward the end of season 3 but those characters are likely to have never done that, let alone both find out about the other’s betrayal
- Kima and Broadus are gold
I want a The Wire x Star Wars crossover where Bubbles and R2-D2 are the protagonists in a buddy cop flick.
