You can just type in the instance address. For vlemmy you would just type in vlemmy.net.

You can only create communities on the server you belong to. If that server were to disappear then the community would as well, though there would be a “copy” of the posts and comments on another server if someone from that server subscribed. You would have to make a new community on another server if you want to interact and make new posts or comments. I hope that makes sense.

There doesn’t seem to be an active Interestingasfuck community yet so if you feel up to it maybe you could create one.

There is the TIL community that I started that you may be intrested in. There are also plenty of other science based communities setup on other instances you can sunscribe to. I’ll be setting up a more in depth guide on how to navigate and subscribe to those communities soon. Keep an eye out for it. Feel free to create any community you would like as well.

Yeah if Office is that necessary there is only so much you can do to isolate yourself from windows without getting overly technical. The VM is only connected to the internet if you have it on and the network connection enabled in your VM software’s settings.

Well you would have the advantage of privacy/security as your host system in Linux so would send far less telemetry data if any at all. Also no more windows updates being shoved at you or restarting your computer in the middle of work. I’m sure you’d also learn a lot to. Its always good to have options.

There it probably a very hacky way of doing it through a compatibility layer like wine but I doubt it would be either easy or stable. Have you thought about using windows as a VM within Linux and using it that way? Otherwise unfortunately then it wouldn’t be a fit for you.
