Why not starting the same popular lets, say top 300 with names as subreddits were named? Would be easier to transition at least.

I’d love for a gundeals remake around here. It’s one of the few things that keeps me going back to reddit.

Otherwise I’m a big fan of science, learning or anything else that feels like it might teach me something.

There is the TIL community that I started that you may be intrested in. There are also plenty of other science based communities setup on other instances you can sunscribe to. I’ll be setting up a more in depth guide on how to navigate and subscribe to those communities soon. Keep an eye out for it. Feel free to create any community you would like as well.

I’d just like to say, you’re doing a great job, and so far my transition has been seamless, there’s room to grow of course, but if all goes well this should be the place to be ❤️

There doesn’t seem to be an active Interestingasfuck community yet so if you feel up to it maybe you could create one.

New to Lemmy. When creating new communities does it matter which instance one creates it? For instance already have seen a few communities with the same name.

Is the approach in Lemmy that it is more of a <community>@<server> vs just <community>?

Only concern I have, or perhaps don’t understand it well enough, is that what if one creates a new community on a small host and then that host goes away. One would have to start from scratch on another server the same community and all the old posts would go away?

You can only create communities on the server you belong to. If that server were to disappear then the community would as well, though there would be a “copy” of the posts and comments on another server if someone from that server subscribed. You would have to make a new community on another server if you want to interact and make new posts or comments. I hope that makes sense.
